José "Joe" Gómez

José “Joe” Gómez was named Assistant City Manager for Operations and Infrastructure on July 15, 2024. In this role, he is responsible for the city's infrastructure projects, overseeing the Development Services, Parking and Mobility Services, and Public Works departments.
Gómez has experience in engineering and municipal government operations, most recently serving as the Director of Public Works for the City of Miami Beach. In this role, he managed a team of 360 across four divisions and a capital and operating budget of $600 million.
In his more than 47 years as a civil engineer, he has worked in a myriad of roles including municipal infrastructure, strategic planning, and construction management. His career includes significant leadership roles in both the public and private sectors including 10 years with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
He is an alumnus of Miami Dade College and Florida International University where he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and has been a registered professional engineer since 1985. Additionally, he holds certifications in Advanced Maintenance of Traffic and Quality Control Management from FDOT, and Stormwater Inspection from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. He also served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami and is a member of the University’s Civil and Architectural Engineering Industrial Advisory Board.
