The City of Coral Gables earned an Envision Bronze award from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure for Cocoplum 1 Pump Station. This award recognizes stakeholder involvement and delivery of community benefits, climate resilience, and protection of the surrounding lands.
The upgrades to the wastewater system are the latest example of the city’s commitment to sustainability. It is one of 35 wastewater pump stations in the system. The city performed various upgrades to better handle peak flows and improve overall system reliability.
“This is a great Utilities Division accomplishment,” said Hermes Diaz, Public Works director. “In addition to improving system reliability, crucial to our environment by working with the Homeowners Association we were able to offer additional benefits to the community resulting in widening an existing bike path and installing a sidewalk."
