Event Information

Currently, Miami-Dade county is at a waste management crossroads, and many of the current systems are being challenged for their widespread yet underreported negative effects on human health and the local environment. By promoting and amplifying the voices of community organizations, as well as inviting an international perspective to this local issue, this event will help improve community awareness of the current state of waste-management in Miami-Dade.

The main event will be enjoying the music and incredible story of the Recycled Orchestra of Catuera, a youth orchestra internationally renowned for both their musical ability, resilience, and resourcefulness; using instruments entirely constructed entirely out of repurposed discarded materials. See more about their story. Landfill Harmonic, the "Recycled Orchestra"

The band’s director, Favio Chavez, will be giving his own presentation and will participate in an on-stage Q-&-A. Favio and the rest of the orchestra will be available to meet after the event as well.
