King Tides

The king tide is the highest predicted high tide of the year at a coastal location. It is above the highest water level reached at high tide on an average day. King tides are also known as "perigean spring tides". King tides can cause flooding in low-lying and coastal areas, especially if they coincide with bad weather like heavy rains, strong winds, or big waves. They can also cause "sunny day flooding," where streets and other areas flood when it's not raining. In southeast Florida, these typically occur in the fall.
