Marcos De La Rosa was appointed Fire Chief for the City of Coral Gables in 2016. He oversees fire and emergency services within the city of more than 50,000 residents. He oversees a team of more than 147 and is also responsible for emergency management. As the Emergency Manager, he leads the city’s emergency management response towards city-wide emergencies and disasters.


De La Rosa began his career at the City of Hialeah Fire Department. He was a member of the department for 24-years where he rose through the ranks and held positions of increasing responsibility and scope including leading the department as Fire Chief. 

Throughout his career, he has served and participated in professional and community organizations including the National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee, the Miami-Dade College Fire Academic Advisory Committee, and the University of Miami’s, Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, among others. In addition to his duties as Fire Chief, De La Rosa remains involved in the training and development of professional fire fighters and paramedics as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Gordon Center for Research and Medical Education as well as Miami-Dade College.  

He holds a Bachelor of Public Administration from Barry University and a Master in Public Administration from Florida International University. He also received a graduate certificate from the Department of Homeland Security in Emergency Management.
