Kirk R. Menendez was elected Coral Gables City Commissioner in April 2021. He is a long-time community volunteer. For more than 40-years, he has dedicated much of his time to advocating for and helping children and families at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, St. Theresa School, Church of the Little Flower, Knights of Columbus, and Gift Meal Project. In addition, he is the President of the non-profit Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center Association, and he chaired the City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board from 2013 until his election.

Menendez is a professional with a broad background and significant experience in public affairs. He has held positions of increasing scope and responsibility in the public sector and top national law firms. Currently, he is with the Keyes Company, a locally based family-owned real estate brokerage firm. Additionally, he is the President and founder of KRM Relations Group, where he provides clients with public liaison and outreach services as well as issues management.

He holds both a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from St. Thomas University and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida International University.

Before transitioning to the public sector, he began his career working for renowned law firms Holland & Knight and Greenburg Traurig. He later joined the Cuban American National Foundation serving as Deputy Executive Director and Assistant General Counsel. In addition to managing the foundation’s operations, he advocated before the Federal Government and national and international agencies.

Menendez held numerous roles in the City of Miami, including Assistant City Attorney, Senior Assistant to the City Manager, Executive Director of the Miami Sports & Exhibition Authority, and Intergovernmental Affairs Director. As Intergovernmental Affairs Director, he represented the city’s legislative agenda at the local, state, and federal levels. His duties included advocating for the city’s legislative agenda. His last position at the city was as Chief of Staff for a city commissioner, where he managed the office and led research, community outreach, and policy analysis efforts.

Today, he resides in Coral Gables with his wife Maria Teresa and his children Lydia and Kirk.
