City Announces Executive Leadership Promotions

CORAL GABLES, FL – The City of Coral Gables has promoted José “Joe” Gómez from Assistant City Manager to Deputy City Manager and Carolina Vester from Deputy Community Recreation Director to Assistant City Manager. Both promotions are effective Feb. 24.

“This leadership restructuring is part of my ongoing commitment to enhance accountability and improve how we deliver services to our residents,” said City Manager Alberto N. Parjus. “By elevating leaders from within who prioritize innovation and community engagement, we will continue to work to make our city government more effective and responsive. I am especially pleased to recognize two outstanding professionals who embody commitment to excellence in public service,”

Gómez began his tenure with the city in July 2024. In his role, he will continue to oversee Public Works, Development Services, and Parking and Mobility. His extensive background in engineering and municipal operations has been instrumental in strengthening the city’s infrastructure and improving efficiency in service delivery.

Vester, a 21-year veteran of the city, has risen through the ranks since she began her career as a part-time lifeguard at the Venetian Pool. She has held various leadership roles in the Community Recreation Department, most recently serving as Deputy Director while also managing the Coral Gables Golf & Country Club. In her new role, she will oversee Community Recreation, Economic Development, Historic Resources and Cultural Arts, and Innovation and Technology (IT) departments.
