Seraphic Fire is kicking off its 21st season with scenes from "Castor and Pollux" by Jean-Philippe Rameau. There will be a showing at the Church of the Little Flower Nov. 3, 2023 at 8 p.m. More information and tickets.
Show
The 1737 opera tells the story of mythological twins Castor, who is mortal, and Pollux, who is immortal, as they both fall in love with the same woman and embark on a journey to the underworld. The performance will feature solo voices, a chorus and a chamber orchestra. It promises the harmonic complexity and dance-like rhythms that Rameau is known for. The program will start with "Dominus Regnavit" by Jean-Joseph de Mondonville, a majestic setting of Biblical text.
