The City of Coral Gables is working with invited artists to submit public art proposals commemorating the historical contributions of the city’s Bahamian and Black residents. One of the options for commissioning artworks for the City of Coral Gables is to select artists based on professional qualifications. After an extensive review process the Arts Advisory Panel, with the support of the Cultural Development Board and input from the Lola B. Walker Homeowners Association, recommended artists to develop proposals for a public artwork to coincide with the city’s centennial. Artists are visiting Coral Gables on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 7:30 p.m at the Lola B. Walker Community Center. After touring downtown, meeting with city staff, and walking through the nationally recognized historic neighborhood, artists will end the day with an opportunity to introduce themselves to neighborhood residents and learn more about the people and history being honored. This public meeting is intended to share and gather information to assist the artists as they begin their work developing site-specific proposals. Once submitted, the proposals will be made available for public comment. The City of Coral Gables greatly appreciates your interest in this project.
