Welcome From Mayor Jim Cason

I would like to extend a warm welcome to each person visiting the City of Coral Gables website. Coral Gables is proud to be a dynamic, historic, and international City. Whether you are a resident of our City, interested in the possibility of doing business here, or simply a visitor, the information located on this website should assist you in answering questions you may have.

For Coral Gables residents, many of you are already familiar with the aspects of daily life in our City. Please use this site to learn even more about the plentiful services offered to our citizens. Improving your quality of life is always a top priority, and we demonstrate this by offering a mix of recreational classes and activities, planned events, and art and cultural experiences. Moreover, we believe in a transparent government aimed at responding to our citizens’ requests; the City’s free electronic newsletter and citizen service request form are great examples of this.

For those who wish to explore business opportunities in our dynamic City, Coral Gables’ international reputation and close proximity to Miami make it the Corporate Capital of the Americas. Our City is located minutes away from the Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami, and its international influence becomes more apparent by the many consulates and foreign offices located here. Let me encourage you to also use this site to learn more about the various initiatives we have for improving the overall business environment, and facilitating the process of starting your own business.

For those who are simply interested in visiting our beautiful City, you have picked an excellent destination. Coral Gables was originally constructed with the goal of re-creating some of the picturesque cities found along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It has continued to develop with countless outdoor cafés, fine dining experiences, exceptional shopping, and world class hotels. I would encourage everyone to shop and dine at Miracle Mile and the Village of Merrick Park Shopping Center, as well as visit some of the historic landmarks and villages interspersed throughout our City. A quick glance through the
City Cultural information will also help introduce you to our numerous galleries, theaters, cinemas, museums, and gardens.

After browsing through this website, it should become clear why the City of Coral Gables has been recognized as one of six “
America’s Crown Communities” (American City & County magazine), one of the “Top 10 Cities to Live Well in America” (Forbes magazine), one of the “Top 10 Dreamiest Places to Live in the United States” (HGTV’s FrontDoor.com), one of the “Most Walkable Suburbs in the Country” (Wall Street Journal), one of six “Most Beautiful Cities in America” (Rand McNally / USA Today), and as one of “America’s Top 10 Romantic Cities” (Livability.com).  Also, in a competition held in Xiamen, China in December 2013, the City was named one of the top five most livable communities in the world, in its population category (20,000 - 75,000) by the United Nations-backed International Awards for Livable Communities (LivCom Awards).  The City It truly is a unique place.
