Coral Gables High School

Since opening its doors in 1950, Coral Gables High School, 450 Bird Road, has provided a comprehensive four-year secondary education. Its 26-acre campus, inspired by old Spanish architecture, offers dual enrollment courses, a gifted program and three academies aligned to a Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) framework. The individual academies — which focus on Business Management and Information Technology; Design, Education and Hospitality, and Health Science, Public Service and Law — provide learning experiences that rigorously integrate STEM and offer students opportunities to major in STEM disciplines. Among its notable alumni are former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, award-winning author Karen Russell and CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler.

International Studies Preparatory Academy

The International Studies Preparatory Academy, an A-rated magnet school since 2008, is the only school in the U.S. to offer an International Studies (IS) program based on an agreement with the governments of France, Italy and Spain. Students at the Academy can pursue world language studies in addition to an academic curriculum with an international focus that addresses the standards of the U.S. and European Union educational systems. Students receive three hours of instruction in French, Italian or Spanish with studies in literature, history and geography in the chosen language. Graduate students also receive a U.S. high school diploma and the equivalent diploma from the European country.

George W. Carver Middle School
Ranked as one of the top public schools in the state, George W. Carver Middle School, 4901 Lincoln Drive, is a magnet school for international studies and education. It is recognized by the French, German, Spanish, and Italian governments, and accredited by France and Spain. All students study French, German, Spanish or Italian and their respective cultures at an in-depth level. A U.S. Department of Education “Blue Ribbon School of Excellence,” Carver Middle has been recognized since 2002 as an A-rated school by the Florida Department of Education, as well as a “Magnet School of Excellence” by Magnet Schools of America. The school offers numerous clubs, student organizations and after-school sports programs.

Ponce de Leon Middle School

Coral Gables is an international city, and Ponce de Leon Middle School, 5801 Augusto Street, is helping to insure it retains that reputation for years to come. The school offers grades 6 through 8 and is dedicated to producing global students. Ponce Middle is the only authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program in the City of Coral Gables, with language programs that include Spanish, French and Italian. In 2014, it was awarded the Magnet Schools of America School of Distinction and came in first place at the District-wide World Language Competition in 2012, among its many accolades. Students at the school took first place for photography at the Miami-Dade Youth Fair in 2012.

Coral Gables Preparatory Academy

Coral Gables Preparatory Academy, 105 Minorca Avenue, is a nationally recognized School of Excellence and an A-rated school since 2000. It offers K-8 grade configuration with two campuses that are historic landmarks. The lower academy housing Pre-K through 4th grade offers a full-time gifted program. The Upper Academy housing offers 5-8 grades full-time gifted, advanced and high school credit. The school features a small school environment with a rigorous academic focus. It also features exciting electives, student clubs, activities, competitions and kayaking program with one-of-a-kind field trips.

David Fairchild Elementary School

Located on the border of Coral Gables, David Fairchild Elementary School, 5757 SW 45th Street, has been recognized as an “A” school 12 of the past 13 years, making it a top educational institution in Miami-Dade County. The school, named after American botanist and plant explorer David Fairchild, was built in 1955 and has won awards in the fields of art and botany. In 1996, buildings were added to service Art, Music, a computer lab, a prekindergarten classroom and special education resource classes. The school offers a growing gifted program.

George W. Carver Elementary School

An A-rated controlled school of choice, George W. Carver Elementary offers an enriched traditional basic skills program, as well as an Extended Foreign Language Program (EFL) in Spanish and magnet program in Italian. The school – which opened in 1899 as a private institution-- was selected to participate in the first Lego League during the 2014-15 school year, and the University of Miami Athletic Department has selected it as a partner for mentoring and tutoring. Carver offers extracurricular activities that include participation in book, advanced math, science, art and drama clubs. Its alumni include astronaut Winston Scott.

Henry S. West Laboratory School

Established in 1954, Henry S. West Laboratory School, 5300 Carillo Street, is an A-rated developmental school of choice associated with the School of Education at the University of Miami. Under a partnership with the University’s Department of Teaching and Learning, the school offers various projects for students K-6, including science programs and the creation of a “living habitat.” University faculty members and students teach and conduct research under the direction of a Professor in Residence. The school also offers a variety of after school enrichment programs, including dance, violin, sports, drama, art, chess and coding. It also offers a German International Studies (IS) program beginning in first grade. West Lab is a county-wide school that accepts students by random selection of kindergarten applicants.

Sunset Elementary

A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence on the border of Coral Gables, Sunset Elementary is renowned for offering the first International Studies Magnet Program in South Florida. In addition to a Global Curriculum in English, the dual recognition program implements official Spanish, French, and German curriculum in the respective language. The A-rated school is also known for its highly diverse faculty, a student body from more than 50 countries and strong community involvement. Sunset Elementary offers an International Studies Magnet Program, an integrated Math and Science Gifted Program, an Emotionally Handicapped Center, a Learning Disabilities/Varying Exceptionalities Program and a Pre-Kindergarten Program.
