2016 Neighborhood Sidewalk Repair/Replacement
Citywide, we are working to repair or replace broken and uneven public sidewalks, damaged by right-of-way trees in all residential neighborhoods, at no cost to property owners. In 2015 a $2 million project was funded to restore uneven or broken sidewalks that had been damaged over the past 20 years. Although code requires that sidewalks be maintained by the abutting property owners, the Commission voted to pay for repairing the damaged residential sidewalks on a one-time catch-up basis. Once the repairs are completed, homeowners will be responsible for maintaining the sidewalks abutting their properties according to code. Public Works will determine which sidewalks need to be restored or replaced.
